Description

This course will provide an overview for the rationale behind universal hepatitis C (HCV) screening among pregnant persons. It will review clinical management for persons who screen positive for HCV as well as clinical recommendations for infants born to HCV-positive others. Finally, the course will discuss stigma and bias associated with HCV and substance use in pregnancy, and provide attendees with New York State resources for the clinical management of pregnant persons with HCV

Tatyana Kushner,MD, MSCE

Tatyana Kushner, MD, MSCE is a faculty member in the division of Liver Diseases at Mount Sinai Medical Center. She completed her medical school and internal medicine training at Mount Sinai, a fellowship in gastroenterology and masters in clinical epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in transplant hepatology at University of California, San Francisco. Her research and clinical interests are in women's health and liver disease, with a particular focus on viral hepatitis and pregnancy.

  • Describe NYSDOH Clinical Guidelines for Pregnancy and HCV, and the rationale for universal HCV screening among pregnant persons.
  • Discuss clinical management of pregnant persons who screen positive for HCV.
  • Review HCV screening and treatment recommendations for infants born to mothers living with HCV.
  • Review the connection between HCV and substance use among pregnant persons.
  • Understand stigma and bias associated with HCV and substance use among pregnant persons, and identify methods to reduce them.
