Derek M. Fine, MD, is a Professor of Medicine who has been on Faculty at Johns Hopkins for over 20 years. He is a clinician and educator who has dedicated to the care, investigation and educational activities for patients with kidney diseases. Dr. Fine completed medical school at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Nephrology. Dr. Fine had served as fellowship director of the nephrology fellowship training program for 10 years and until recently served as Clinic Director of the Division of Nephrology. Dr. Fine has been inducted into The Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; in 2018 he was named Physician of the Year at the Johns Hopkins Hospital; and in 2020 he received American Society of Nephrology Distinguished Clinical Service Award. Dr. Fine’s primary clinical and research interest is in the area of glomerular kidney disease, particularly diseases related to systemic lupus and HIV. He has over 100 publications in these are other subjects in nephrology, and has lectured widely on these and other topics.
