Selected by attendees and the program planning committee as one of the best sessions of the ACTHIV® 2024 conference for the frontline HIV care team, this activity will focus on how polypharmacy applies to people with HIV, complications of polypharmacy, and how care teams can work together to identify patients who might benefit from deprescribing.

Bradley L. Smith, PharmD, BCACP, AAHIVP, is a clinical pharmacy specialist in primary care at Grady Health System’s Ponce Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Smith’s current practice interests include primary care for patients living with HIV, family medicine, and preventive medicine.

Mehul Tejani,MD, MPH


Mehul Tejani, MD, MPH, is a general internist and a clinician educator at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, based clinically at the Grady Health System. His clinical practice is at Grady’s Ponce de Leon Center, where he has been since 2011. He has a background in interdisciplinary education in a broad range of settings. Specifically, he has previously assisted the educational director for the Ponce HIV Clinic, part of the Grady Health System in Atlanta, GA, helping to plan and lead educational activities on primary care topics for HIV care specialists. He has served as a contributor to the Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center, and he has also been a writer and presenter for the HIV-AGE program, a joint educational program between the American Geriatric Society and the HIV Medical Association. He was previously the course director for the Emory School of Medicine Board Review Course in Internal Medicine.

  • Work with your team to identify patients who would benefit from deprescribing
  • Use a stepwise approach to partner with patients in deprescribing
