Description

This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the skills to diagnose and manage alcohol use disorder (AUD) in clinical settings. Participants will learn to accurately diagnose AUD through assessment tools and clinical criteria. The course covers the latest pharmacotherapy options for treating AUD, including medications that support long-term recovery and relapse prevention. Additionally, a significant focus is placed on the harm reduction approach, exploring strategies to minimize risks and support patients in managing their alcohol use in a way that promotes overall health and well-being.

Andreas Lazaris,MD, MSc, AAHIVS

Andreas Lazaris, MD, MSc, AAHIVS is a board-certified family-medicine physician and HIV specialist. Dr. Lazaris is a graduate of the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and completed his residency training at the Mount Sinai Downtown Residency in Urban Family Medicine in New York City. He completed his fellowship training in the NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship through Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Lazaris works as a primary care provider and Assistant Medical Director for Primary Care with Janian Medical Care, a homeless healthcare organization in New York City. At Janian, he provides full-spectrum primary care for patients with histories of chronic unsheltered homelessness as an on-site physician in a permanent supportive housing site and in a safe haven. Dr. Lazaris holds a position as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Montefiore-Einstein Department of Family and Social Medicine and serves as a core faculty member in the NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship.
