Dr. Alexandra Abrams-Downey is board-certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine. She earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where she also completed her residency in internal medicine. She then pursued a fellowship in infectious diseases at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
Following her fellowship, Dr. Abrams-Downey joined the faculty at Mount Sinai, serving as the medical director of the Morningside Clinic in the Institute for Advanced Medicine, which provides care for over 1,500 people with HIV. She has extensive experience in HIV clinical care and clinical research, having served as an investigator on multiple clinical trials at Mount Sinai’s Clinical Translational Research Center, including as a site lead for the REPRIEVE trial.
Currently, Dr. Abrams-Downey is the Chief of the Division of HIV Medicine at Albany Medical College, where she joined the faculty as an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine in 2023. In this role, she oversees the only New York State Designated AIDS Center in the region, which provides primary care for people with HIV, treatment for Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections, and HIV testing and prevention services. She also serves as the principal investigator for multiple grants funded by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute and the Ryan White program.
