Description

Selected by attendees and the program planning committee as one of the best sessions of the ACTHIV® 2025 conference for the frontline HIV care team, this activity will provide insights from an interprofessional panel of experts on common clinical challenges the HIV care team may face in caring for people with HIV.

Darcy Wooten,MD, MS

Darcy Wooten, MD, MS, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Washington University in St. Louis where so also serves as the ID Fellowship Program Director, Associate Chief of Education, and Director of Educational Initiatives. She did her undergraduate studies in Human Virology at Stanford University before completing medical school and Internal Medicine residency training at UCSF. She earned a Master of Science degree from UC Berkeley and completed her ID fellowship at Harbor UCLA. From 2014-2024, she served as an ID and HIV Attending and the ID Fellowship Program Director at UCSD. Her clinical interests include HIV medicine, general infectious diseases, and medical education. She is a self-proclaimed med ed enthusiast.

Roger J. Bedimo,MD, MS

Roger Bedimo, MD, MS is Professor of Medicine and Interim Director of the Global Health Office at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He’s currently member of the IAS-USA guidelines Committee. With the success of antiretroviral therapy and improved survival of people with HIV, non-AIDS – and especially age-related – complications are becoming the greatest cause of morbidity and mortality. Dr. Bedimo’s research focus has been on understanding the risk factors, determinants, and mechanisms of these complications, including non-AIDS malignancies, cardiometabolic risk and decreased bone health. He’s also focused on the role of co-infection with chronic hepatitis C. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Bedimo’s work has also included evaluation of the natural history of the disease, with special focus on post-acute sequelae.

Melissa Badowski,PharmD, MPH

Melissa Badowski, PharmD, MPH, is a Clinical Professor and Associate Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services in Ambulatory Care at the University of Illinois Chicago, College of Pharmacy. She is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy and Infectious Diseases Specialist and an American Academy of HIV Medicine Pharmacist Specialist. She cares for individuals in custody at 26 prisons throughout the State of Illinois through an interdisciplinary HIV telemedicine clinic at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. Her current research focuses on treatment and prevention of HIV, development of adverse effects and resistance, and the role of telemedicine in the management of HIV.

Eileen Scully,MD, PhD

Eileen Scully, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University. She earned her MD and PhD in Immunobiology from the Yale University School of Medicine, completed Internal Medicine residency at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the Harvard Combined program of Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Scully did an additional dedicated year as the HIV fellow at the Brigham followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard. Dr. Scully then started her laboratory studying HIV immunopathogenesis and cure, moving to Johns Hopkins in 2016. She is currently an investigator in the ACTG, a member of the Inter-CFAR HIV in Women Executive Committee, and a member of the DHHS Antiretroviral Guidelines Panel. She cares for patients in the Bartlett HIV clinic and on the dedicated inpatient service and teaches a longitudinal curriculum on HIV resistance and treatment to the ID fellows.
