Selected by attendees and the program planning committee as one of the best sessions of the ACTHIV® 2025 conference for the frontline HIV care team, this activity will review key information and guidance realted to Hepatitis B and people with HIV.

Susan Naggie,MD, MHS

Susanna Naggie, MD, MHS, completed her undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering and biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park, and her medical education at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She conducted her internal medicine and infectious diseases fellowship training at Duke Health. She joined the faculty in the Duke School of Medicine in 2009. She is a Professor of Medicine and currently holds appointments at the Duke School of Medicine, Duke Clinical Research Institute, and Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Naggie is a clinical investigator with a focus in clinical trials and translational science in HIV and liver disease. She is a standing member of the DHHS Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents and the CDC/NIH/IDSA-HIVMA Opportunistic Infections Guideline. She is the Vice Dean for Clinical and Translational Research and Director for the Duke Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the serologies corresponding to HBV exposure, infection, and immunity
  • Identify the goals of HBV therapy
  • Describe health risks associated with HBV infection and markers of HBV-associated liver related outcomes, which the care team should be aware of
  • Explain HBV prevention strategies
  • Describe risk of HBV reactivation and approaches to manage this risk in setting of LAI treatment and prevention of/for HIV
