Description

Cannabis has been used for medicinal, recreational, industrial, and spiritual purposes for thousands of years, with New York legalizing medical cannabis in 2016 and recreational cannabis in 2021. It has shown promise in treating chronic pain, which affects one in five Americans, and cannabinoids in cannabis have been found to block peripheral nerve pain in animal studies. Medical cannabis requires careful management to balance benefits and risks, and clinicians should tailor treatments to individual patients, considering the effects of both CBD and THC. Harm-reduction strategies, patient education on potential side effects, and proper dosing are essential for minimizing risks and ensuring effective treatment.
